Linda DuChene Interiors
American Cottage Design
Hi! I’m Linda DuChene. I design cozy, welcoming interiors for cottage lovers who struggle to design their dream home on their own.
Years ago, when a buyer walked in and bought our first renovation property - furnishings and all - on the first day of sale, I thought, hmmm, maybe we were onto something. That project set us off on a years long trajectory renovating and designing homes.
This workbook is the culmination of all we’ve learned about the groundwork that has to happen if you truly want to carry off a winning renovation and design project.
We are delighted to pass on these tips and step-by-step exercises to help you get off and running right from the start.
PROJECT PLANNING WORKBOOK
In this 15 page Getting Clarity Workbook you will learn to:
Zero in on your project goals, needs, wants and ideas so you can clearly articulate your vision and present your contractor, designer and vendors with clear-cut project objectives.
Collect your own thoughts and gather the necessary information that will lay the groundwork for all your future project decisions.
Help you focus your ideas into one coherent design plan.
Indecision and beating around the bush often leads to confusion, extensions of project timelines, do overs, change orders and ultimately project dissatisfaction.
Do it right the first time and save yourself the time, money and frustration!
Get clear on what you want before you begin your next interior design project!
If you’re thinking about redesigning your space, we can help you sort it all out by guiding you along the decision making path to:
Understand the range of design options to choose from so you can avoid decision paralysis.
Understand what decisions need to be made so that you will be fully prepared to make them in a timely manor.
Why those decisions are good or necessary so that you can remain confident in your choices.
When decisions must be made so that your project timeline progresses smoothly.
I’ll also help keep the finances in line and the ball rolling efficiently so that your renovation project is less frustrating, less expensive, less time consuming and more fun.
I love helping cottage lovers create beauiful interiors that help them live simpler, more stress-free lives so that they can relax and devote more time to family, friends and favorite pastimes.
Perhaps you’d like help designing something smaller (or maybe not) and easier to maintain with well-designed storage, a more functional floor plan and high performance fabrics and finishes that clean up easily.
Maybe you want to include a few contemporary elements without compromising the nostalgic cottage ambiance, but mixing the old and new into a cohesive plan has you befuddled.
Perhaps you’re looking to buy or renovate a getaway cottage but you want it designed with comfortable guest rooms for family and friends, plenty of accommodation for luggage, outdoor gear and large, open gathering areas for evening meals, games and great conversations.
Or maybe you just want to live in the warmth and comfort of a welcoming home that is beautifully simple, designed with natural materials, and has earth-tone color palettes and soft textures… something that’s designed to reduce stress with comfy seating areas, reading nooks and spaces for relaxation and reflection. In short, maybe you just want a cottage that can support the things you find really important in life.
Partners
My husband, Scott, and I are partners in life and partners in work. As former advertising creatives, we have been happily working shoulder to shoulder as a creative team for more than 25 years. As principals at American Cottage Design, I design the spaces and manage the projects, while Scott oversees construction and applies his eye for meticulous detail and quality work to every project we take on.
